HIGHER STUDY IN GERMANY..INDIAN STUDENTS....

For Indian Students

Working Internships in Science and Engineering (WISE)
Students pursuing Bachelor degree/ Dual degree/ integrated programmes in subjects like engineering, mathematics, natural sciences etc. from selected Indian universities can apply for scholarship for 2-3 months internship at institutions of higher education and research institutes in Germany.
Application Deadline: 1 November

University Summer Courses (Essay Competition)
Regular full-time students registered in a Bachelor or Master course who are pursuing German language either as a part of this course or as certificate/diploma/advance diploma course can apply for a scholarship to participate in a university summer course in Germany.
Application Deadline: 15 October

Study Visits for Groups of Foreign Students to Germany
University teacher/faculty can apply for a visit to Germany for 7-12 days with a group of minimum 10 and maximum 15 students who are in the second or higher semester of their degree programme. The programme is open to all subject fields.
Application Deadlines:
  1. 1 February for trips beginning after 1 June
  2. 1 May for trips beginning after 1 September
  3. 1 November for trips beginning after 1 March


For Indian Graduates & Doctoral Students

Postgraduate Courses with Relevance to Developing Countries
Graduate degree holders can apply for a master’s degree course in select subject areas at one of the select German universities.
Application Deadline: 31 July

Masters' Scholarships in Public Policy & Good Governance
Graduate degree holders from any stream can apply for master’s course at one of the selected German Universities with the following focus areas: Public Policy, Good Governance, International Relations, Public Management, Administration, Civil Society.

Conflict Studies and Management Programme (CSMP) at the Willy Brandt School of Public Policy in Erfurt
Graduate and post-graduate degree holders from any stream can apply for a master’s and PhD degree respectively in areas that may include: Regional security (especially developing frameworks for regional security architectures), terrorism, governance, fragile states, peace and institution building, global policy making, cultural and religious aspects in conflict studies.
Application Deadline: 31 July
Jawaharlal Nehru Award for International Understanding - Dr. Angela Merkel Scholarship; Master’s Scholarship for European Law
Law graduates can apply for a master’s degree (LL.M.) in European Law at one of the selected German Universities.
Application Deadline: 1 October

Study Scholarship for Architects
Graduate degree holders to complete a course of extension studies, without gaining a formal degree or qualification, or to complete a postgraduate or Master’s degree course to gain a degree in Germany (Master’s/Diplom), at a German state (public) or state-recognised higher education institution.

Study Scholarship for Artists
These study scholarships aim to provide foreign applicants from the fields of Fine Art, Design, Film, Music as well as Performing Arts (Drama, Direction, Dance, Choreography, etc.) with an opportunity to complete a course of extension studies, without gaining a formal degree or qualification, or to complete a postgraduate or Master’s degree course to gain a degree in Germany (Master’s/Diplom), at a German state (public) or state-recognised higher education institution.

Sandwich Model Scholarships for Masters' Students of IITs
Master's (including Integrated and Dual Degree programmes) scholars from any discipline registered at an IIT can spend 6 months to complete their project work under the guidance of a German professor at one of the TU9 Technical Universities in Germany.
Application Deadline: 31 March
IIM Semester Scholarship
MBA students from select Indian Institutes of Management can apply for a semester stay at a select partner business school in Germany.

PhD Scholarships (Research Grants for Doctoral Candidates and Young Academics and Scientists)
Scholars with master’s degree in any subjects can apply for full PhD scholarship at any university and research institutes in Germany.
Application Deadline: 1 October
Sandwich Model Scholarships for PhD Registered Scholars (Research Grants for Doctoral Candidates and Young Academics and Scientists)
Scholars registered for their PhD at an Indian university / research institute carry out research for their PhD thesis in Germany under the joint supervision of an Indian as well as a German professor. PhD degree to be awarded by Indian University / Institution.
Application Deadline: 1 October


For Indian Post Docs, Academicians & Senior Scientists

Research Stays (Forschungsaufenthalte)
University academics and scientists on active duty can apply for a stay of up to 3 months to carry out a research project at a state (public) or state recognised higher education institution or non-university research institute in Germany.
Application Deadline: 1 October

Leibniz-DAAD Research Fellowships
This programme is jointly implemented by the Leibniz Association and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). Highly-qualified, international postdoctoral researchers, who have recently completed their doctoral studies, can apply to conduct research at the Leibniz Institute of their choice in Germany.
Application Deadline: 7 March

DLR-DAAD Research Fellowships
This programme is jointly implemented by the Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR) and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). Highly-qualified international doctoral and postdoctoral students as well as senior scientists can apply to conduct research at the institutes of the DLR in Germany.
Application Deadline: Offer Specific

Visiting Professorships (Gastdozenturen)
University academics on active duty can teach at a German university for a minimum of one and maximum of four semesters. The German host university needs to apply.
Application Deadlines:
  1. 15 January for winter semester of the same year
  2. 15 July for summer semester starting in the following year

For Indian Alumni

Re-invitation Programme for Former Scholarship Holders (Wiedereinladungen)
Former DAAD one-year scholarship holders and former scholarship holders who had studied in East Germany (GDR) for at least one year and are on active duty carry out a research project at a state (public) or state recognised higher education institution or non-university research institute in Germany.
Application Deadline: 1 October
Specialist Literature Programme (Book Grants)
Former one-year scholarship holders of all disciplines (as well as former German studies scholarship holders who received support for at least 5 months) can apply once a year for specialist literature (books, journals, articles) produced by German publishers to help them advance their academic knowledge and qualifications (maximum value of € 200 per year).

Small Equipment Programme
One-year scholarship holders, especially those from the fields of engineering, technology and science and from the agricultural and forestry sciences, who received DAAD support for a period of 10 or more months can apply for a grant towards for purchase of small equipment and materials. The application deadline ends 8 weeks before the scholarship period is completed. Applications can be made for the purchase of small equipment and material of direct relevance to projects carried out at the German university. Purchase of the following is absolutely excluded from this programme: Video, photo and office equipment (eg, photocopiers and computers, including software and accessories).
Material Resources Programme
Scientists or alumni of German institutions of higher education who have  returned to their home country and are active at an institution of higher education or comparable academic institution can apply for scientific equipment for carrying out their current teaching and research projects. There are two application categories, viz. small-scale projects (up to € 3,500) and large-scale projects (from € 3,500 to € 20,000).



For Project/Cooperation based Programmes (Application by Indian and German side)

DAAD – DST Project- based Personnel Exchange Programme (PPP)
University professors and scientists from German and Indian universities and those in permanent employment at independent research institutes are eligible to apply for 2 years funding for collaborative research projects between Indian and German research groups in the field of engineering and natural sciences.

DAAD-IIT Exchange of Faculty
Faculty of the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) can apply for a visit to TU 9 universities for up to 2 months research stay. The visit should be on reciprocal basis.

DAAD-CSIR Exchange of Senior Scientists
Senior Scientists working at the CSIR institutes and laboratories can apply for a visit to German universities/research institutes for up to 2 months research stay. The visit should be on reciprocal basis.
Application Deadline: 1 October
DAAD-UGC Exchange of Senior Scientists
Indian faculty and scientists holding a PhD degree and affiliated to universities and research institutes can apply for a visit to German universities/research institutes for 2-4 weeks research stay in the field of humanities and social sciences. The visit should be on reciprocal basis.
